Writing for public safety without alarmism
The central editorial task was to make risk legible without implying that every discolored lake is identical or that appearance alone can confirm toxicity. The article uses visible bloom descriptions as an entry point, then moves toward the environmental mechanisms that require monitoring and testing.
Relevant expertise
The piece draws on my continuing work with freshwater systems and harmful algal blooms. That subject familiarity supports more precise explanations of eutrophication, temperature, runoff, and the difference between an observed condition and a supported causal claim.
My role
I researched and wrote the environmental-health explainer independently.
